How to Recognize Different Types of Hunger?

I understand when I feel hungry, but how do I recognize what type of hunger it is?

After the previous post, I found this question very interesting.

Because recognizing hunger is not just about "Is my stomach hungry?"

Pause for a moment and ask yourself some questions...

1. Eye Hunger Do you suddenly want to eat when you see food?

2. Nose Hunger Does the pleasant smell of food increase your appetite?

3. Mouth Hunger Is your stomach full but you still want something tasty, crunchy, or sweet?

4. Mind Hunger Is it snack time because the clock says 4 PM? Is it hunger or just routine?

5. Heart / Emotional Hunger Do you turn to food when stressed, bored, or feeling some emotion?

6. Physical Hunger Has it been a long time since your last meal and your body is sending real hunger signals?

Try using a small Pause Rule.

Next time you feel like eating something, ask yourself— "If my favorite food was not in front of me right now, would I still want to eat something simple?"

If the answer is yes, it is more likely physical hunger.

And if you only desire a specific food, then there might be another reason behind your hunger signal.

Note that not every craving is emotional hunger.

Our appetite, meal timing, sleep, stress, and food environment all affect eating behavior.

So next time before eating, don't just ask "I want to eat." Ask "Why do I want to eat?" ❤️

Which hunger signal will you observe from today? 👀 👃 👄 🧠 ❤️ 🫃
