Why Heart Attack and Chest Pain Cases Increase During Sorghum Harvest Season

Just For Hearts1 min read

The sorghum harvest season often sees a rise in cases of heart attack and chest pain. However, the problem is not with the sorghum itself but with the sudden increase in physical strain.

During sorghum harvesting, the crop must be uprooted with roots, which puts intense strain on the body. Sometimes the crop is cut, but the work remains very strenuous.

Farmers and laborers work throughout the year, but the sudden heavy physical exertion during harvest causes a rapid increase in Blood Pressure, heart rate, and oxygen demand.

Those with coronary arteries that are already borderline narrow may experience hidden heart problems becoming apparent during this time.

This phenomenon is seen in farming, but similar situations occur in urban settings as well:

1. Prolonged dancing at weddings 2. Heavy meals and staying awake late 3. Weekend trekking

Work, effort, and enjoyment should not be avoided, but it is important to prepare the body and listen to its signals.
