Essential Diabetes Tests: Your Checklist for 5+ Years

Just For Hearts1 min read

Do you have Diabetes for 5+ years? Follow this checklist.

This question is asked daily in the OPD. Some people do very few tests, while others opt for unnecessary packages. Both approaches are incorrect.

🩸 Monthly * Fasting sugar * Post-meal sugar

📊 Every 3 months * HbA1c (3-month average sugar) * BP * Weight / BMI, Visceral Fat, Muscle Mass

🧪 Every 6 months * Creatinine (kidney function) * Urine microalbumin (protein in urine) / UACR * Lipid profile (cholesterol – LDL, TG)

👁️ Annually * Eye check-up (retina examination) * Foot check (sensation + blood flow)

🫀 As needed * ECG / TMT (heart check) * Liver tests (fatty liver risk) * Vitamin B12 (for those on long-term medicines)

⚖️ Practical clarity There's no need to visit a lab for tests today; home sample collection is readily available.

"More tests = more benefits" is not always true. The right tests, at the right time, are the correct approach.

Check this list for yourself once. And be sure to share it with family and friends who have diabetes. Many people know about tests but aren't clear about when and how often to do them.

Many people with Diabetes either under-test or do unnecessary packages. What matters is the right tests at the right time. This Checklist gives clarity.
