Understanding Metabolism in Simple Terms
A reader honestly said, "Sir, you write simply... but I don't understand what metabolism means."
Their point is valid; some words aren't simple, and understanding them is crucial.
Let's understand metabolism in very simple terms.
Metabolism means the body's "internal workings."
What you eat, the body: - Makes energy - Stores it - Uses it when needed
This entire process is metabolism.
For example: Imagine your body is a house. • Food = groceries coming into the house • Digestion = unpacking groceries • Metabolism = 👉 What to use immediately 👉 What to store 👉 What to throw away
If all this works well, the body feels light, and energy is good. If it goes wrong, fat accumulates, sugar increases, and cholesterol rises.
Currently, there's a lot of discussion about metabolism because today most diseases converge at one point: metabolism.
- Diabetes - Fatty Liver - Obesity - High Cholesterol - BP - Heart Disease
These seem like separate diseases, but fundamentally, they are all results of metabolic dysfunction.
What will be the trend in the coming years? Medicines won't increase... more emphasis will be on Lifestyle. • How we eat • How long we sit • How much we move • How our sleep is
Treatment will be determined by these factors. This means understanding metabolism will become a basic necessity in the future.
What does my 25+ years of experience say? Patients who understand how the body works rather than just focusing on "reports" have more sustainable control.
Now it's clear: Metabolism is - Not diet - Not exercise - Not medicine Metabolism = how the body behaves daily.
Do you find any other word or concept difficult to understand? Ask in the comments. Let's discuss it in the next post.
Discussion increases understanding. Increased understanding changes health.
