Today, the Biggest Threat to Health is Not Disease, But Misinformation
Today, the biggest threat to health is not "disease"... but "misinformation".
Today, influencers, podcasts, articles, and ads are all suggesting "quick fixes". But what I see daily in the clinic is quite different.
From the ideas in the book "Think Again" and from observing millions of patients, I have learned some important lessons about health that every patient and caregiver needs to understand:
1. Health advice is not universal. What works for one person can be harmful to another. "One-size-fits-all" solutions are a big trap. 2. Confident speaking ≠ correct speaking. Just because something is stated confidently doesn't mean it's true. In Health, context is more important than confidence. 3. "I've been doing this for years" is not a guarantee. Old habits may not stand up to new science. Think Again means unlearning. 4. Paid content is very attractive. Newspaper articles, TV segments, and reels are often sponsored. It looks like information, but the goal is sales. 5. Influencer ≠ Medical expert. Having followers doesn't mean having experience. Ask yourself: Is the person giving Health advice in active clinical practice? 6. Anecdote ≠ evidence. "Someone I know benefited" is not scientific proof. Evidence comes from journals, not comments. 7. Overpromise = warning sign. Be wary of phrases like "Weight in 10 days," "Stop medicine." There are no shortcuts in Health. 8. Who is a smart patient? One who asks: Is this right for me? Is there data behind this? Is this paid content? 9. Clinic reality (what I see daily): Misinformation leads to increased treatment delay, unnecessary fear, and wrong decisions. 10. For health, Think Again means: Listen. Read. But don't follow immediately. Think. Ask questions. Then decide.
My opinion: Health is not about following trends; it's about understanding and making informed decisions.
Before buying anything, before starting anything, ask yourself one question: "Am I really listening from the right source?"
Sometimes, the wisest decision is to Think Again.
