Anxiety: It's Not Something Wrong, Your Body is Overprotective
Anxiety doesn't mean something is wrong with you; it means your body is being overly protective.
Even when your reports are normal, experiencing palpitations, restlessness, and racing thoughts is very common. This isn't a weakness; it's an over-alert response from your nervous system.
What exactly is Anxiety?
1. **Brain + Body response:** Anxiety isn't just in your mind; both your Brain and Body react, which is why the Symptoms feel so real. 2. **Amygdala overactive:** The Brain's fear centre identifies “danger” even in small things, causing the body to immediately go into alert mode. 3. **Stress hormones increase:** cortisol and adrenaline levels rise, leading to increased palpitations, shortness of breath, and restlessness. 4. **Symptoms are real:** Palpitations, breathlessness, sweating, and chest heaviness are all due to real physical changes in the body.
Why does it feel so real?
5. **Body changes → Mind interpretation:** When physical changes occur, the Mind interprets them as “something is wrong.” 6. **Misinterpretation loop:** Fear increases Symptoms, and Symptoms, in turn, increase fear, creating a vicious cycle.
Hidden triggers that increase Anxiety:
7. **Poor sleep:** Lack of sleep makes the Brain more sensitive, and Anxiety can quickly escalate. 8. **Excess Caffeine:** Caffeine increases heart rate and alertness, making Anxiety Symptoms more pronounced. 9. **Screen overload:** Constant screen time prevents the Brain from resting, keeping the nervous system continuously active. 10. **Disrupted meal timing:** Irregular meal times lead to sugar fluctuations, increasing irritability and Anxiety. 11. **Prolonged sitting:** When the body remains inactive, the Mind becomes overactive, and Anxiety persists.
Remember:
12. **Anxiety is not imaginary:** It's a real bodily reaction, so don't blame yourself. 13. **It's often overprotective:** Most of the time, your body is just being overly protective; there's no actual danger. 14. **Understanding reduces it:** Once you understand Anxiety, fear decreases, and control gradually returns.
