How do you define Obesity?
Obesity simply means excessive fat. It’s not being overweight, which means having too much fat. A person can weigh more due to bone density or other reasons, while obesity means the flab which you don’t need. Mostly it is explained in terms of BMI or Body Mass Index. Search on Google and you can find many links to calculate your BMI and check whether you are above normal weight or not.

Who is at Risk?
The answer is simple. If your BMI ratio is between the 25 to 30 or more than that you have put on more weight than necessary. If you eat lot of junk food or lot of meat and don’t exercise enough you tend to get overweight. In some cases, it has been observed that if your parents are overweight and obese, you have every chance of becoming obese in your life. This has been observed in estimated 40% Children. Since your childhood if you are eating more or over eating, number of fat cells in the body increase in many ways and this trend can continue when you become adult.
Daily lifestyle routine, not having enough sleep, smoking, consumption of alcohol and bad eating habits can also lead to obesity.
Health Risks Associated –
1. Bone and cartilage degeneration (Osteoarthritis).
2. Coronary heart disease.
3. Gallbladder disease
4. High total cholesterol, high levels of triglycerides (Dyslipidemia)
5. Respiratory problems
6. Sleep apnea
Type 2 Diabetes
Obesity can be fatal but can be prevented. First and foremost thing is to eat healthy and avoid too much eating. Especially for dinner don’t eat too much as we sleep we don’t do any physical activity while sleeping and the food eaten gets accumulated in the body in the form of fat.
Regular exercise is very necessary to burn the excess calories and increase blood circulation in your body. If your schedule does not allow you to exercise then at least try and eat healthy. Go for salads and fruits more. If you still can’t lose your weight consider bariatric surgery to remove excess fat in your body.
Eat like a king while having a breakfast and eat like a beggar while having dinner.
If you are obese, then your primary objectives should be to achieve a certain weight which is called healthy weight and then you need to maintain it too.
Don’t set too high goals for losing your weight, even if you lose weight at a steady pace (1-2 kgs. per month), you will see a lot of improvement in your health.
In order to lose your weight, physical activity should be increased. Also you must change your mindset towards looking at your weight and must believe that weight loss is possible. Consult your Dietician or doctor if you feel that the current diet or exercise is not helping in losing weight.
