It is commonly seen that most of us give the least importance to dental health and hygiene. Research suggests that the health of your mouth mirrors the condition of your body as a whole.
As a part of our social responsibility and oral health awareness campaign, Just for Hearts in association with Samarth Dental Clinic conducted a dental health screening camp on 13 May 2014 at Bajaj Company, Pimpri-Cinchwad, Pune. Around 60 employees were screened by Dr. Mandar R Phutane. They were advised proper line of treatment where required and were educated for good oral hygiene and health.
The check up was initiated with some general queries to be answered by each one of the participants. Queries like how many times do you brush your teeth? Do your gums bleed while brushing? Are your teeth sensitive to heat/ cold? This was followed by a complete dental check up by Dr Mandar R Phutane.
The common observations experienced during the check up were Dental caries, gums diseases, high tooth sensitivity, incomplete dental treatment taken, brushing just once a day and many more.
Participants were very keen in knowing the tips for maintaining good oral hygiene. All the queries were satisfactorily answered by Dr Mandar R Phutane and various doubts in the minds of the participants were also cleared.
The common queries asked were-
• What are the proper brushing techniques?
• What is the importance of brushing twice a day?
• Why do gums bleed while brushing?
• What are the tips to maintain good oral health?
• How does tooth get decay?
• How to prevent tooth decay?
• What are the various types of dental treatments?
• Does diabetics need to take special dental care?
Dr Phutane said that it is not only important to brush at least twice a day and to floss each day, it is also important that you visit your dentist regularly for a routine check up and professional cleaning. Brushing and flossing correctly and with a right toothbrush, toothpaste and floss is also essential for preventing the onset of dental diseases.
It was indeed a great interactive screening camp. The management served as a good and supportive host. At the end we can conclude that such campaigns can surely help to increase the awareness and contribute to an oral healthy community.
