Cardio exercises – do’s and don’ts
- Do perform a warm up before your workout as your body and muscles are in a relaxed position and performing a warm up will speed up the blood flow to the muscles within your body to prevent them from fatigue or tearing.
- Don’t start off immediately with the cardio portion of your training. Your body needs to get accustomed before starting off on a cardio vascular training schedule.
- Do calm down gradually as stopping immediately may result in an unnecessary amount of blood to accumulate in your feet and limbs while there will be a loss of flow to the heart, making you feel dizzy.
- Don’t immediately stop what you are doing. If you are running on a treadmill, slow it down gradually from the speed to come to a gradual step. If you come to an abstract stop, your body will not be able to cope up with the change and collapse.
- Do eat before exercising. A light meal with little to no fat, 20 minutes before starting the exercise has proven to be of more effect as it gives the body more calories to burn throughout the 24 hours of the workout. Also drink sips of water before, during and after exercise.
- Don’t perform the same exercises everyday as it not only becomes boring for you but it also reduces the productivity for your body. Give challenges to your body to cope up with and see it respond back. But make sure to do it slowly and gradually.
- Do be choosy about your equipments as they are the heart and soul of any workout and your performance and the fitness of the body will depend upon the compatibility your body has with the equipment you use. A wrongly aligned equipment can completely disrupt your workout session.
- Don’t shorten your strides on the treadmill or perform tip-toe on the stair-climbing machine. A fast and furious workout does not necessarily equal to a better workout. These short and furious strides can actually reduce the benefits of your workout.
